History

Realising the long-cherished dream of the high-range district of Pathanamthitta, the Govt. Arts & Science College, Elanthoor started functioning on 16 July 2014 with 3 degree courses in Commerce (BCom), Malayalam (BA) and Zoology (BSc). A demand long overdue, the college is the only one of its kind in the district. Since inception, the college, affiliated to Mahatma Gandhi University has been functioning in the temporary space of the building allotted to it by the District Panchayat on the VHSS campus. Moves are a foot to shift the college to a permanent campus in Elanthoor with the state-of-the-art infrastructure. The Administrative Sanction (AS) for the new college has been issued and an amount to the tune of Rs. 12 crore has been allotted. The Kerala Industrial and Technical Consultancy Organization Ltd. (KITCO) has been assigned the task of design and construction and the Kerala Infrastructure Investment Fund Board (KIIFB) is the funding agency. The preliminary discussions are over and the second round is in the pipeline once the Technical Appraisal Report (TAR) is given by the KIIFB. A liaison committee is monitoring the progress on a daily basis with the active support of the local MLA and Local Body Representative.
